What is a discontinued printer part?

Printer parts remain in production for several years after a printer has become obsolete and superseded by another model. Eventually a manufacturer will phase out producing these parts before permanently stopping production.

What is the impact to servicing?

Repairing printers becomes very difficult beyond the date that its parts are discontinued. Key parts such as printheads and platen rollers become scarce very quickly. Engineer servicing is possible up to and beyond this date but with no guarantee that the printer will be fully repaired. This can lead to a substantial loss of productivity as you may have to wait up to 5 days for an engineer to visit on-site who then cannot repair the printer as parts are not available.

What about Service Contract holders?

Servicing will be provided as normal up until the contract expires. Once contracts expire they cannot be renewed in the same year that a printers’ parts are to be discontinued. Once the contract has expired servicing will be possible but only under an ad-hoc service where each engineer call out is chargeable.
